Here are some of the questions we’ve received recently:

“I am really keen to have a Brazilian Blow Dry, but I’m not sure if it will damage my hair and I don’t want to ruin the texture.”

You’re right to be concerned about this because it’s a relatively new service in the UK. However, as long as you go to a reputable salon who is experienced in its application, you should leave with great hair in brilliant condition.

Brazilian Blow Dries originate from Brazil where they have been popular for decades, some of the formulations have received some negative press in the UK, but don’t let that deter you – just make sure you ask the salon all the questions you need answering. Our system leaves hair in fabulous condition, and whilst it doesn’t straighten the hair, it certainly reduces frizz and tames it. For anyone with high maintenance unruly hair this is definitely worth a try.

“I’ve tried colouring my hair blonde at home and it’s gone slightly brassy and yellow. Do you have any suggestions as to how I can sort it out?”

The most important stage of any blonde colouring is toning – this is what makes the difference between a DIY colour and a professional job. It’s not uncommon for yellow brassy tones to appear, and this could possibly be rectified with a quick toner in the salon. It’s best to pop in and see us, as your hair could just need toning at the backwash, or it may require a whole new colour application.

We also have a range of professional products that you can buy to take home which are designed specifically for blonde hair and to counteract yellow tones.

“I’m a lady in my 30s and in the last few months I have noticed my hair is getting thinner and I am actually losing hair. What could be causing this?”

You really need to see a trichologist to get an expert opinion. Thinning hair and hair loss in women is more common than you might think and there are many reasons why this could be happening. It could be hormonal (especially if you have recently had a baby) or due to stress – often the condition of the hair and scalp is a direct indication of your general health and wellbeing. The reason you should not ignore this, is because it could be just a temporary problem, or it could be permanent and needs addressing. Make an appointment to come and see Natalie who is our trainee trichologist. If she can’t help you, we will certainly be able to recommend a clinic that can.
